In Freak The Mighty, by Rodman Philbrick, there were many macro ideas that I tracked. One of my favorites is that people never like what they are know and try to change what they are. Freak The Mighty is about a large boy named Max who is growing more and more each day but nothing every enters his brain and a small one named Freak who is crippled and knows just about everything. They are both the same age and are complete opposites. Also they both don't like what they are know and want to change themselves.
Freak is always talking about dragons and going on different quests. I have a thoery that he whole reason he thinks about dragons is that he feels like some princess who needs to be saved while his best friend Max is the dragon. Maybe that's why he admires him so much. Freak does like his condition right now and tells Max about this new robot body he is going to get which is not true. i think he tells Max this so Max wouldn't think he would be so small and pathetic his whole life, when Max doesn't think this at all.
Max on the other hand is so large and people get so scared of him easily when he is the type of person with a large heart. He probably feels that he would like to be the princess where maybe people would respect him more and wouldn't be scared of him. He might also feel that Freak just like him because he's a huge dragon and he might need a ride, but as shown later in the book Max means much more than that to Freak.
In conclusion, at first Max and Freak don't really like how they are looked at by other people and probably would like to change that as anyone else would. But later in the book they realize that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of you and you don't have to change if one person already saw the real you.
wow, Aishwarya. You have made me thinking much deeper about FTM! I love the comparisons and conclusion that you drew. So smart!
